A special place

Image
(ENG) Today was a special day for me. In the morning nothing happened. I made a of wood and nothing more. For the afternoon I was told that we would again have to go into the jungle to cut some trees and bring them to the campsite for a construction. This was something I had done the day before and was quite fatigued. I was not really enthusiastic about it. In any case, I prepared myself. In the sense that I took everything out of my pockets. In the thick jungle it is really a mess and losing anything is very easy. Silverio also gets ready and asks me if I took water. Um no, it doesn't fit in my pocket and then I didn't think we would go that far. In any case I prepare my small bottle and take it. At this point he asks me if I took my cell phone. That one I really didn't. If I lose that my life gets pretty complicated. He tells me to take it...I don't know what to think, however, he will know better. We went into the forest on what seemed almost like a trail. Then afte...

The Inca ritual

Image
(ENG) I also had the opportunity to witness and participate in an Inca ritual. The place where I am volunteering now is very unique. In itself it is just a campsite, however it is placed a short distance from some Inca ruins and the scenery is fantastic. Right in front of ai is Machu Picchu and then it is surrounded by 8 snow-capped mountains that are quite impressive in height. The owner of this place is an Inca shaman. I didn't really understand for what reason, but one night he decided to do this ritual and make us participate. We all sat around the fire, ate leaves of I don't know exactly what and drank a substance that I don't know what it was. I'm still alive, though, so it's okay. We all are, so don't worry. The ritual then continued with prayers and substances thrown into the fire for the purpose of purification. We then took a trio of leaves and placed them in front of our mouths to recite, repeating after the shaman, prayers especially to the Most Holy...

And here we are in Perù (p.2)

Image
(ENG) Finally arriving in Santa Teresa, I decided that would be enough for that day, partly because my body was feeling some of the physical stress, and I found a hostel for the night. I settled in and discovered that there is a hot spring there. It seemed like a good idea to go and see what they are like, also to recover a bit. I walked around the town but couldn't find them. I did, however, manage to scout out some kind of tourist information center. They pointed me to a street and I set off there confidently. At one point I found myself outside the township and thought I had taken a wrong turn. I started trying to look on maps, however, nothing. At this point a lady passed by and greeted me and then asked if I was going to the spa. Another stroke of luck. She told me to follow her. I thanked her and we walked on. She had bags and I offered to carry them. It seemed the least I could do. We walked for a long time. The dirt road ran along a river and was deep in the jungle. At one ...

And here we are in Perù (p.1)

Image
(ENG) I arrived in Peru after a long journey. The flight I had bought included a stopover in Panama and one in Miami. In Panama I was only five hours, just long enough to wander around the airport a bit. In Miami, on the other hand, I spent the night. I noticed that, like me, many people spend the night in the airport. I was a little afraid that they would give me a hard time, since I returned to the "states" after only 2 weeks. Instead, it was easy. The routine questions were always the same, however after trying to explain what I am doing now in my life, I received a "good luck" and my passport back. I also managed to find a quiet place to stay and do my own thing. The next morning the whole process of departure was easy and I finally arrived in Peru. Here again there were the ritual questions and I received another "good luck." I think if I collect a couple more, I can become Gaston. In Lima, I waited for the fourth plane in 2 days and finally the latte...

Goodbye Jamaica

Image
(ENG) The time has come to say goodbye to Jamaica as well and continue on to the next stage. Some of it I regret and some of it I am glad to move on. This place really has so much to offer and it was nice to savor at least some of its wonders. After saying goodbye to Aunt Sarah, I spent the last 2 days in Montego Bay. As you probably noticed, I have always talked about places and experiences subjectively. I think this is a normal thing. As much as any person decides to describe a place objectively, there will always be a personal part. Sometimes it's something simple, such as deciding to devote space to one detail rather than another. And, in my opinion, things like that are interesting for that reason as well. What we see and perceive around us can be completely different for everyone, despite the conditions being the same. Leaving aside simple platitudes, such as "I like that one, I don't like that one," we all have 'tools' that tell us what the world is lik...

My last night at Geddes Great House

Image
(ENG) This will be my last night at the Geddes Great House. I have spent the last 10 days here, which may not be a lot, but basically not that little either. I have been a guest and at the same contributor. The days have been long, but also pleasant. I have been working a lot, but Aunt Sarah has been taking care of me. I call her that, because I came here through her niece. I have learned a lot from this place and especially from the people who live here. The first impact I think was a little bit like that for everybody. Then again, I swooped in here from who knows where and it took us a while to get to know each other. Today, I feel that I hold these people dear and that they have given me a lot in this time together. In the last week, in the evenings after dinner, I had long talks with Miss Sarah. I thus discovered that I also have a Jamaican name, related, of course, to what I did last week, making everyone angry. The name is Mr. Callaloo, because he is the plant I exterminated thin...

And then the first week

Image
(ENG) And thus ends my first week in Jamaica. It was not really a whole week, as I arrived on Tuesday. But in spite of that I can say that I experienced a lot and also intensely. For three days I worked and a lot too. The property here is large and there is always plenty to do. Among other things I also managed to make everyone here angry, because at one point I made a pretty big mistake. Wanting to overdo it, I did exactly what I shouldn't have. That was a strange day. I really felt lonely and even thought about leaving here. Easy to say, a little harder to do. Here I am in the middle of nowhere. It takes a minimum of $50 to hail a cab and then in general everything is pretty expensive.Honestly I couldn't even afford it. In any case, I decided that I could not just give up at the first difficulty. Running away wouldn't solve anything. Then all that was left to do was to apologize, one by one. Deep down I was truly sorry. I realized that I had done something that for me was...

first day here

Image
(ENG) So my time in Jamaica begins. I'm only going to be here two weeks. Not even really. I realize I want to do a lot of things, but it doesn't seem so easy. Then I also have to work. The first day was about garden work. Nothing specific, but they need it because the property is big and there is always something to do outside. So this morning, after a few moments of indecision, I was given a machete and off I went. My task was to clean all the dry plants in general from a certain area. I felt like I was Rambo. Something I managed to do. I hope that's okay. There were times when I suffered a bit from the heat and humidity. At one point the rain came. Lots of rain, so we had to stop. At this point the lady decided she was going to the city and asked me if I wanted to go. Of course I did. So we went to Claremont, which is actually a small village. I like these places because they are not touristy at all and you can see exactly how life is lived here. Everyone looks at me with...

Welcome to Jamaica

Image
(ENG) And here we are in Jamaica. First impression? Well, it's another world. I think it always is when you go to a new place, but of course this time it's even more special. I arrived at the airport quite dazed. I think I fell asleep a little bit on the plane and that only exacerbated the fatigue. Fortunately I already had my bus ticket done, but it took me forever to figure out where it was going to leave from. In my defense, however, I must say that the one I was supposed to take was the most hidden. Having found the location of the company, I obviously had no idea how things were proceeding. Again I received miraculous help and a girl who was coordinating the whole thing, seeing my difficulty, practically decided to babysit me. I left my duffle bag there, stacked with all the others, with a fragile note indicating the destination. I had already said goodbye to him, thinking I would never see him again. On the third try, I got on a bus. My babysitter looked at me satisfied a...

Goodbye California

Image
(ENG) Right now there is a big mixture of emotions and feelings in me. It is difficult to write something, but at the same time I think this can help me. This day has also come. It seemed so far away, and yet, somewhat treacherously, it came. I had a really good time. It was just wonderful to be here, surrounded by incredible scenery and most of all wonderful people. All of them made the time spent here unforgettable. I look up. Around me there are many people. I wonder if they are experiencing what I am experiencing. No, I don't think so. Everyone around me has their own life, their own path. For me' today it is difficult. I feel like I am not even in full contact with my body anymore. I'm sure this is also the result of the fact that I haven't slept or eaten much in the last 20 hours. But I don't even feel the need. I feed on whatever is going on inside me. At least I think so. The thing is, I feel an enormous sadness, a great nostalgia. It's hard to live with...

Big Bear Lake

Image
(ENG) The last weekend spent here was dedicated to nature and family. We went 2 days to Big Bear Lake, which is a mountain resort. For me it was the first time in this place, so I was very curious, but at the same time I didn't have any kind of expectation. Being a small resort surrounded by nature, there are plenty of activities to do here in any season, but it is also a great place to relax. In the end that's kind of what we did. I think it's also easy to do it here, it comes naturally. The landscapes, the nature and the atmosphere here lead to a calm state of mind. At least for me it was like that. However, I also had the impression, looking around, that generally people were serene, smiling and bland. I felt good here and it was also a great place to connect with my family specifically my brother, sister-in-law, sister and brother-in-law. You know when nothing much actually happens, but at the same time everything is wonderful? It was exactly like that: it was just us, ...

Halloween time

Image
(ENG) At this time one of the main themes here is Halloween. For lovers of this genre, the possibilities are plenty. Parties, theme parks, festivals and any kind of activity you can think of. Our choice was the 17th door. What is it? Well, even now I still find it hard to name it or put it in a category. You basically enter the scene of a horror movie. Even though deep down you know it's fiction and you're supposed to come out alive anyway, certainly the commitment to making sure you have an unforgettable experience is remarkable. Starting with the preparation. All the waiting, the fact that you have to sign a waiver and that you have to take some kind of oath before you actually enter the game is well thought out, down to the smallest detail. And then it starts. What you have to do is simple: go through 17 doors. The point is that behind each one you expect something...that you don't expect. Each room is made in such a way as to stimulate your senses to the maximum in the ...
